  • I think Viair should sponsor a couple of hardmount compressors to MORR. Having the ability to air up for highway running and down for the crawling, then up again to get home would save tires.

What, you out of hot dogs? Of course not, we're out of chili. I asked if they had kraut and mustard, then everyone in the kitchen started laughing. Hey, you ain't gonna believe what this guy just asked for! (sorry, no kraut either) Had to settle for a burger.

  • This was a good lesson….ANYTIME you go out in the wilderness whether it’s for the day or just an hour, you need to be prepared to assist your yourself, food, water, first aid etc. I can’t tell you the number of times we’ve found people in the back country that were just going to take a little hike and had gotten themselves into trouble with injuries, dehydration or just being lost, every minute you spend going the wrong direction just takes you further and further from help. This story luckily had a good outcome!

  • Well done going back to rescue grandad but , Naaah, not good enough, Matt. Who goes into remote areas without at least One Spare Tyre and then nearly running short of fuel. Did you at least have a five gallon of water on board??

    Steven CampbellSteven CampbellKun oldin
    • @John Smith Why do I always get into trouble Only when somewhere remote and solo? Well apart from being over confident, under prepared and a little bit loosely screwed < I enjoy that feeling of relief when the adventure is finally over. You know, the complete collapse of all body functions, cramps, goosebumps, the twitching and shudder at the memories. Yes, I have filled a pair of underpants once or twice. Not worth the washout so began leaving them hanging on a tree branch next to the trails as a warning to the next fellow along. That is not taught at the local FourXFour club where leaving evidence of your passing is considered as being less than environmentally conscious. BTW, I have been watching a few more of these awesome videos and have been laughing, then holding onto my seat while watching the recoveries. Gotta , got to recommend them across on my Facebook page, if that is OK with you.

      Steven CampbellSteven Campbell16 soat oldin
    • @Steven Campbell Would it have been a more pleasant outing if you had a couple of other vehicles accompanying you in the jaunts in which you got in the 4wd club trainers encourage you to do...rather than go out solo?

      John SmithJohn Smith17 soat oldin
    • @John Smith I reckon you may know your own job. It would be petty to address each of those concerns with unasked for advice. If you consider not having the obvious safety equipment 'good enough', then I will offer a rigid two finger salute then repeat that old tried and proven Boy Scout's motto,' Always Be Prepared'. You put yourself and your team into dangerous situations where chance has favoured you so far. At those times when I have ventured into the wilds like these other near senile old Granddads who went right up that bush trail, I too have been fortunate enough to return home safely only after a mighty effort which might have been avoided by sufficient aforethought, but now , upon consideration , I would take more precautions in future. Keep up the good work that you do.

      Steven CampbellSteven Campbell18 soat oldin
    • Matt usually has some bottled water...when the dogs are along...always water...and a collapsible bowl, too. The spare only gets in the way, day to day...and gas cans are dangerous either inside or outside the vehicle.

  • @Matt’s Off Road Recovery It is amazing to me how many times I see people in vehicles trying to drive over and beyond the capability of the equipment their vehicle has!! The tires on that truck(four wheel drive or not) were absolutely inadequate for that type of terrain!! That truck was destined to get flats and get hung up for a lack of actual traction even on the road surface itself, forget any possibilities of traction off of the hard road surface(calling that road surface hard is a huge overstatement)!!! Goodyear Wrangler AT’s would be the minimum for that kind of road surface and would be inadequate as hell off the side of that type of road!!! In my honest opinion, the B. F. Goodrich AT KO 2’s are just barely enough tire for the softer material off the edges of that type of road surface and only slightly better if the vehicle has front and rear locker options!!! If someone plans to continually drive those roads on a regular basis, a more dedicated off road type tire would be more preferred than even the B. F. Goodrich AT KO 2’s, front and rear lockers are still necessary, and the ability to air down and air up would be a huge plus!!!
